The Wellness Edit

Anothersole is all about embracing women and their passions, empowering you to look and feel comfortable—being you at every step of the way.

In line with World Mental Health Day, this October we want to celebrate and appreciate the importance of self-care and wellness of the mind, body and soul; thanking, prioritising and taking care of ourselves and loved ones while spearing towards the uncertainty.

Sit back, relax and get inspired by personal stories, routines and experiences from some really wonderful women! Give your mental well-being a boost and read on to find out more.

How would you describe your day to day activities?

Besides teaching yoga I like to practice crossfit, running and swimming.

What are your fave yoga exercises and poses at the moment?

My fave yoga poses are the ones from Sun Salutations because they are the best way to prepare the body for a class.

Can you share your personal self-care routine and practice you strongly believe in?

I believe we are what we eat and that is why it is very important for me to have a healthy diet and nutrition.

How would you describe your day to day activities?

Like many people, I wear many hats. My most important role is being a mum. I am a final year Naturopath student and have been in the Defence Force for 12 years.

What is the most unforgettable moment you have encountered so far as a young mom?

These moments occur all the time and one in particular would be seeing Vala on the surf board with dad. She’s a beach baby and this was so special.

Can you share your personal self-care routine and practice you strongly believe in?

I have tried many forms of self care and believe it’s all about narrowing down what works best for you. My two favourites are my skincare routine and a daily workout in the form of a long walk or Pilates.

Is there a particular quote, resource, book or podcast you would recommend?

A podcast that I love is The Daily Stoic, in particular the episode ‘50 rules for life from Stoics’. A great at home Pilates workout YouTube would be Lily Sabri. I love her workouts and she has an background as a physiotherapist and Pilates instructor.

Which are your go-to pair(s) of Anothersole shoes and how they help you daily?

My go-to Anothersole shoes are the Luisa II in Pebbled White. They make running after all day after my toddler effortless and they are truly like walking on clouds.

What is one word of advice you would give to young mommies like yourself?

You are wiser, stronger and more incredible than you’ll ever know!

What do you enjoy most about being an entrepreneur / blogger, what challenges do you face and how do you cope with them?

I love that I’m able to do something that I’m incredibly passionate about and that I can share that passion with others to inspire, encourage and connect in a positive and authentic way. It fulfills my need for creativity and pushes me to take risks. The biggest challenges I’ve faced are time management, rejection and feeling inadequate. I don’t have a team so juggling everything can be a little much at times. I have multiple calendars to keep me on track and I also schedule daily “me” time to decompress. Regarding rejection and feeling inadequate, I do a lot of inner work to help with my self-esteem. I think it’s also important to separate your business from yourself (which can be hard when you basically are your business).

Can you share your personal self-care routine and practice you strongly believe in?

I meditate, journal, workout and do my skincare routine daily. I also try to schedule in time a few times a week for things like bubble baths, face masks, nail care, and playing guitar. I think it’s important to set aside time to take care of yourself and do things that you love, especially if you are an entrepreneur.

Is there a particular quote, resource, book or podcast you would recommend?

Pretty much any Ralph Waldo Emerson quote. This is one my favorites - “Most of the shadows in this life are caused by standing in one’s own sunshine.”

Which are your go-to pair(s) of Anothersole shoes and how they help you daily?

My favorite is Vick in White! It seriously goes with everything. I looked high and low for the perfect white sneakers to pair with my dresses for years and I finally found them! I love wearing them on low key days when I’m running errands and I always take them with me when I travel because they are comfortable, versatile and stylish.

What is one word of advice you would give to budding entrepreneurs like yourself?

Don't give up!

How would you describe your day to day activities?

Every day is different! Navigating through each day's unique challenges keeps me very busy. But I always make time to (try to) eat healthy. I also work on progressing my goals (since there is no one to answer to besides myself).

What do you enjoy most about being an entrepreneur / blogger, what challenges do you face and how do you cope with them?

I love the autonomy. I can call a small piece of the world mine, built on my own terms. The biggest challenges include dealing with naysayers, especially when I am feeling anxious or am struggling with confidence. I know what I want, but it is not always easy to explain to others. Some people are discouraging because they are negative people, not because of what I am doing or creating. The goal is to be able to distinguish between people who love to criticize and those voicing legitimate concerns. I find that having a healthy lifestyle and mindset illuminates red flags in toxic people. The more I prioritize my personal mental health, a calm attitude and inner balance, the more positive decisions I make for myself and for my business. I find that most entrepreneurs succeed because of mindset. This is the basis for everything we do in our lives.

Can you share your personal self-care routine and practice you strongly believe in?

What you do in the morning sets the tone for the rest of the day. Eat healthy (no refined sugars, low carb if possible), drink lots of liquids. (I don't drink coffee - I drink water and herbals teas - but I know other people need their coffee.) Start working on important tasks. That said, I always take the time to rebalance myself, slowing down or pausing especially when working on something difficult.

Is there a particular quote, resource, book or podcast you would recommend?

Pooh: “How does one become a butterfly?” Piglet: “You must want to fly so much that you are willing to give up being a caterpillar.” Winnie the Pooh has a lot of wisdom. It's not just a child's character. It is an inspirational way of living, where friends are cherished, kindness matters, and no dream is too big.

Which are your go-to pair(s) of Anothersole shoes and how they help you daily?

My go-to is Vicki in White. Love her feminine scallop detail that brings a bit of whimsy to every look. Plus a simple white sneaker looks great with everything! I mostly wear dresses and skirts so the Vicki tempers even the flounciest dress so that it's not too precious for a day look. The Vicky - just like all Anothersole shoes - are very comfortable, lightweight, and take very little space. I bring her with me often as a second pair of shoes just in case I want a different look, or to rest my feet.

How would you describe your day to day activities?

work on radio weekday evenings from 5-8pm on Class 95, my show is called Cartunes! Even though that’s just 3 hours, I’m always prepping for it. I also do voiceovers and these days host a lot of online interviews/gigs.

Who are the people that mean the most to you and why?

My family 100 percent. I mean at the end of the day they are just your people and will have your back no matter what. I can’t talk about my family without getting a bit emotional. I love them all very much.

Can you share your personal self-care routine and practice you strongly believe in?

I think self care isn’t pretty all the time. Like sure I go for the occasional massage and facial and have laughs with my good friends. But sometimes I feel you need to sit with your good/bad feelings and let them wash all over you. So I really love just writing down all my feelings when I’m particularly overwhelmed or sad. Just every single feeling that I’m feeling. It’s extremely cathartic. And watching something sad so I can have a good cry. That helps too!

Is there a particular quote, resource, book or podcast you would recommend?

There’s a quote I love: everything is temporary, emotions thoughts, people and scenery, just flow with it” It also means everything good or bad is temporary.

Which are your go-to pair(s) of Anothersole shoes and how they help you daily?

I love my white pair with the checkered laces! It’s comfy , chic and matches with everything!

What is one word of advice you would give to someone going through a difficult time?

This too shall pass.

How would you describe your day to day activities?

Everyday is always different. Sometimes I can get a bunch of work and sometimes I get no calls, no email, and when I’m not, I try to work on my craft and create content on the side.

Who are the people that mean the most to you and why?

Family. Growing up in an Asian household, we don’t usually show our “love”. It was tough and I took that for granted, but now they are the ones that keep me going.

Can you share your personal self-care routine and practice you strongly believe in?

I have many! I like to keep myself busy when I’m stressed. Working out or cooking are my go to. But sometimes I like to just take a break, put on Netflix, be a potato, and that is okay too.

Is there a particular quote, resource, book or podcast you would recommend?

“Take one step at a time” One thing my therapist always tells me because success doesn’t come overnight.

Which are your go-to pair(s) of Anothersole shoes and how they help you daily?

STELLA! It’s like walking on clouds, so light and comfy. I can just put on a basic outfit and make it look cute and stylish just by wearing my Anothersole pair.

What is one word of advice you would give to someone going through a difficult time?

“Forgive”. Let go, accept your past mistakes and learn from them. You got this!
